What We Know:
Every time a needle passes through the fabric to stitch a pocket or add a different colour it puts a tiny hole in the membrane as well as creating a seam line where the two pieces were joined together. Over time some of these joints can leak and water will seep in past the waterproof taping.
The Concept:
To make a jacket with as little stitch lines as possible, with as little cut lines as possible and with no shoulder or back seams.
The Design:
Inspired by the principles of the Japanese Kimono which is typically made from a long, narrow bolt of cloth the reduced seam Jethi was born.
The Jethi:
The entire body of the Jethi is cut from one piece of PTFE (Waterproof breathable fabric) Which has only 3 stitch lines, one under each armpit and one below the chest! That’s it, its brilliant in its simplicity!

In manufacturing it is said that whether you are producing cars or jackets that a reduction in point of contact will produce a superior product. A point of contact is when part of the assembly requires a human skill which is critical to the assembly. By critical we mean it can adversely affect the longevity and quality of the product. For Treqa that means making a rain jacket that has as little points of contact as possible.
